2010 BICYCLE FILM FESTIVAL: NOT COMING TO A TOWN NEAR YOU

Posted by Caleb on Friday, June 4th, 2010

It didn’t show up last year even though the global sponsor was 42 Below, and this year the closest screening, like last year, is Melbourne (but no dates have been announced yet.) But we will let you know when they do ’cause some cheap trans-Tasman flights could be the go… Anyway there’s some pretty cool films coming up. Brian Vernor who made “Where Are You Go” and the cross film “Pure Sweet Hell” is back with a new Cylcecross film, “The Cylecross Meeting“. Then there is “The Birth of Big Air” a Matt Hoffman biopic, directed by Jeff Tremaine (who among other things is responsible for Jackass, Rob and Big, Big Brother and Go magazines) and produced by Johnny Knoxville and Spike Jonze. Going off the trailer and what you should know already about Hoffman, this film looks like it will definitely be one to check out! As well as the long awaited skate/bike film “Riding the Long White Cloud” All trailers below. READ MORE

So in case you were unaware this week in Wellington there is a festival celebrating 25 years of Mountain Biking in New Zealand. It started with the National Champs on Friday and will finish with the the Skyline Screamer (a three-up downhill eliminator on Wainui’s steep fire roads) on Sunday. But on Tuesday night, that’s tomorrow, Spoke is hosting the New Zealand premiere of Brian Vernor (Pure Sweet Hell and We Just Work Here) and Benny Zenga’s latest work, Where Are You Go. Where Are You Go documents the Tour De Afrique, a 12,000 km stage race from Cairo to Capetown. The film garnered rave reviews at this year’s Bicycle Film Festival and this will be your only chance to see it locally. READ MORE

Looks like Spoke contributor and legendary filmmaker Brian Vernor has a bit of time on his hands at the moment. Hot on the heels of  Where Are You Go comes his second Cross film The Cyclecross Meeting which explores the currently exploding US cyclocross scene, and the emerging Japanese cyclocross scene. The Cyclocross Meeting follows Barry Wicks and Adam Mcgrath to top US races in New Jersey and Oregon, and then to Japan, where they compete with seven time Japanese National Champion Keiichi Tsujiura, and the up and coming talent Yu Takenouchi. Also featuring 35 year veteran bicycle frame builder Nakagawa. READ MORE
